Can You Believe a Flying Car Just Got Approved by the FAA?

The "Model A" flying car from Alef

If you have been waiting for your chance to have a flying car, your wait might be over sooner than you thought. A company called Alef just got the first ever FAA approval for a flying car.

The car has people excited because it takes off vertically like a helicopter. That means a long road as a runway is not needed. It could take off from your driveway (or in a traffic jam) and you are on your way.

The vehicle even looks like a car, not a helicopter that can be driven down the road. The company unveiled their “Model A” prototype last fall (pictured above). You can see a rendering of it flying here and driving here.

The flying car will cost you. It is expected to be around $300,000! Even with that expense, people are putting down deposits to get one. For $150 you can get in line. For $1,500 you are able to skip the line and get in the “Priority Que.”

Don’t expect to see these on or above the roadways too soon. The FAA has only approved Alef to do test flights of the car. The FAA will even decide when and where those will happen.

If you could afford it, would you get a flying car when they become a reality?
